DETEKT is an Açores2030 project (ACORES2030-FEDER-01912600) that joins the Institute of Marine Research (IMAR) with @depth — an Azores-based cloud provider — to assess the feasibility of detecting sperm whale sounds on a fibre-optic cable, using the DAS (Distributed Acoustic Sensing) technology.
The IMAR/OKEANOS team is composed by Cláudia Oliveira, Mónica A. Silva, Rui Prieto and Sergi Pérez-Jorge. This team has a long track record and experience in sperm whale ecology and bioacoustics, which is essential for fieldwork, data processing and analysis and scientific dissemination.
@depth team is composed by João Pinelo and Rui Fernandes. This team has extensive experience in Big Data storage, which is essential for the DETEKT project, as DAS technology produces a large amount of data.
K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics (Cornell University) team is composed by Léa Bouffaut and Holger Klinck. This team is crucial for DETEKT project, as they have vast experience on DAS usage for cetacean monitoring.
